Here is the first post in a new series Cooking 101: How to Chop an Onion
There are many ways to chop an onion and I am not saying that there is ONE RIGHT WAY. I am showing you, step-by-step, my favorite way to chop an onion. I think it makes chopping an onion pretty simple. And I hope that making things pretty simple inspires you to cook more delicious food more often.
Cooking 101: How to Chop an Onion

Using a sharp chef’s knife or a Nakiri knife, cut off both ends of the onion.

Cut the onion in half.

Peel the outer layer off of the onion.

Slice all the way across the onion. (I typically make my cuts about 1/8-1/4 inch thick.)

Turn the sliced onion 90 degrees.

Slice all the way across the onion. (I typically make my cuts about 1/8-1/4 inch thick.) As you slice across the onion the second time, the onion will fall into little chunks.
You chopped an onion! Now add it to just about anything for an instant flavor upgrade.
